Welcome! Thank you for visiting our website. The Village of Orwell is located in Ashtabula County, in northeast Ohio, within the region known as the Grand Valley. Incorporated on March 27, 1921, Orwell is the economic hub and Southwest Gateway to Ashtabula County.

Dear Orwell Village Residents,

Spring is here and it is time to rid your yard of winter debris. Some things to keep in mind  to avoid being in violation of Village Zoning Ordinance are:

Do not allow any weeds and grass to attain a height of 12 inches or obstruct the safety vision of a driver of a motor vehicle. (Ordinance No. 91-4-1)

Maintain all structures and exterior property, all dilapidated structures or structures in serious disrepair shall be removed, repaired, or rebuilt. All building surfaces shall be maintained free of broken glass, loose shingles, crumbling stone or brick, peeling paint or other conditions. (Ordinance No. 5-10-02)

Fences, exterior stairways and retaining walls or similar structures shall be anchored firmly in the ground and shall always be in a state of good structural repair or shall be removed or replaced. (Ordinance No. 5-10-02)

Storage or maintenance of broken, dilapidated, or unusable furniture, mattresses or other household furniture, plastic materials, paints, tires, or any other unsightly materials placed at or on the premises is not permitted. (Ordinance No. 5-10-02)

Meetings:

Unless posted otherwise, all meetings are held at the Village Administration Building, 179 West Main Street, Orwell.

  • Work sessions are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 4:30 p.m.

  • Regular council meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at 4:30 p.m.

  • Planning, Zoning, and Building meetings are scheduled for the last Wednesday of every other month at 1:00 p.m. as follows:  January 31, 2024; March 27, 2024; May 29, 2024 (CANCELED) New Date TBD; July 31, 2024, September 25, 2024;  and November 20, 2024.

  • Zoning Board of Appeals meetings are held on an as-needed basis.

  • Parks and Recreation Meetings will be held at the Grand Valley Library at 8:30  a.m., the first Friday of every month (except July) as follows: January 5, 2024; February 2, 2024, March 1, 2024; April 5, 2024; May 3, 2024; June 7, 2024; August 2, 2024; September 6, 2024; October 4, 2024; November 1, 2024; and December 6, 2024.
